The quest of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, which became the number one goal of the largest gathering of world leader during the millennium submit in September, 2000.

This aims at alleviating poverty among people whose daily income is less than one dollar per day. A subset of these groups of people, which constitutes a very important part of it are the undergraduate Students living in abject poverty. These are students with little or no financial support from home. They wake up without the certainty of neither breakfast, lunch nor supper. Having their beans yet undone, they go about in search of palm oil and garri, among other stuff to make it good. Yet, these are subject to the same academic rigor as every other student, the same environmental hazards, with equal social and economic challenges as you and I. All of these, to mention but a few are especially pathetic particularly for the female undergraduate students among them as this makes them more susceptible and vulnerable to social vices.

In view of all these, there has been tremendous efforts ranging from corporate bodies e.g Shell Scholarship to Government scheme e.g State scholarships. All of this among others were instituted in other to salvage the situation or at least bring it to the nearest minimum. The advent of Student Initiative Scholarship however is not to condemn or disregard any of the pre existing Scholarship Scheme but rather to bridge the current lapses by ensuring Scholarship Fund delivery to the true Indigent Undergraduate Students. That is, students whose utmost needs is to secure a stable and steady source of feeding other than the quest of changing from one Bold 1 phone to a Bold 5 or a Curve 10 if there is anything like that. Note however that the Initiative is not in anyway condemning the act of using a good phone or appliances. As long as the student can afford it, but feels the acquisition of this kind of luxury shouldn't be at the expense of the basic means of survival of some minority few. Thus the need to painstakingly seek out those students whose needs are more basic through diligent investigation and findings. We strongly believe that they scattered amidst us, we receives lecture together, worship together or even resides in same room, floor or block and yet they are starving. How they became victims of these circumstances, we know not. We are persuaded however of the psychological trauma this leaves them, it's adverse effect on their academics and their paradigm as a whole. It is from this burden that the Initiative is horned. Hence, the Scholarship of the Students, made by the Students and for the Students.
